Linux is an unsupported Operating System, but can be used quite easily
with California.com. It is not advised that you attempt to install or
configure linux to send and receive internet email using these instructions
if you're not familiar with unix operating systems.
| Step 1: Open Evolution |
 |
Under the Gnome menu, in Internet, there's a menu item "Email".
This is an application known as Ximian Evolution. This will bring
up a wizard that will guide you through the initial configuration
of Evolution. |
| Step 2: Enter your name and email address |
 |
This screen is all about what people will see when you email them.
Your name, address, and signatures as they will appear to others receiving
your messages. Enter your email address, and feel free to customize
anything else. |
| Step 3: Incoming Mail Part
1 |
 |
This screen looks very blank, so change the "Server Type"
setting to IMAP, and proceed to the next step |
| Step 4: Incoming Mail Part 2 |
 |
Your mail server is "mail.california.com", and select
either Digest or Cram MD5 for password type. This is more secure
than just "Password", as your password is encrypted before
being sent. |
| Step 5: Sending Email |
 |
Very simmilar to Incoming Mail, your mail server is again "mail.california.com".
Check "Server Requires Authentication," and again, select
either Digest or Cram MD5 for Authentication Type. |
| Step 6: Account Management |
 |
Nothing to do here... move along. |
| Step 7: Timezone |
 |
Knowing the timezone your in is very important when dealing with
a world wide medium. Select your local timezone by clicking on a nearby
city. In this case, I clicked on Los Angeles. |
| Step 8: Pat yourself on the back |
 |
You're done with configuration, click finish, and you should get
a screen simmiilar to Step 9 |
| Step 9: Start using Email |
 |
What you do from here is up to you. Enjoy! |
