Netscape Communicator 4.04 - 4.05 Mail Settings

Please Note: Netscape 4.5 and Netscape 4.05 have two very different email
configuration settings. If you need help with 4.5, please click here

1. Start up Netscape Communicator.

2. Click on "Edit" and then "Preferences" and you will see a screen like the one shown below:

3. From the table on the left, double click on "Mail & Groups", and choose the "Identity" tab.

4. Fill in your name and email address@california.com


5. Next, click on the "Servers" tab and you will see a screen like the one below:

6. Fill in your email name - (if your email address is johndoe@california.com, your email name wouldsimply be "johndoe").

7. Fill in the server information:

Outgoing (SMTP) Mail Server:  mail.california.com
Incoming Mail Server:                mail.california.com

8. Press OK. You can begin using your email by starting Netscape Communicator and choosing
"Messenger Mailbox" from the "Communicator" menu on the toolbar.

Other points of interest:

- You can choose between POP3 delivery and IMAP. If you do not know the difference between the two, we suggest you choose POP3. IMAP allows you to see if you have any large file attachments before downloading mail. If you use IMAP, be sure to set a folder for offline download.

- Domain Clients: To pick up mail for you@yourdomain.com, simply change the mail server username to "you%yourdomain.com"
