Configuring Dial-Up Networking in Windows Millennium Edition
- Double click on the My Computer icon on your desktop,
and then double click on the Control Panel icon. In the
Control Panel, look for the Dial-Up Networking icon
and double click on it.
- Double click on the Make New Connection icon.
- Type the name for the new connection (CaliforniaCom), and then
click Next.
- Under the connection name, make sure you have the correct modem
selected.
- Type in the Dial-Up number geographically closest
to you. If you do not know the correct number, go to http://www.california.com/support/basic/accessnumber.html.
- Click Finish.
- You will see your new connection in the Dial-Up Networking
window. Now is a good time to create a shortcut to the connection.
Right click on the connection you just made and select Create
Shortcut, and then move the shortcut icon to your desktop.
- Double click on the CaliforniaCom icon and select Properties.
- Select the Networking tab.
- Make sure that NetBEUI and IPX/SPX Compatible
are not checked.
- Check Enable Software Compression and TCP/IP.
- Click on TCP/IP Settings.
- Select Server assigned IP address. For Primary DNS,
enter 209.3.224.20, and for Secondary DNS, enter 209.3.224.21.
- Check the boxes Use IP header compression and Use
default gateway on remote network.
- Select the Security tab and type in your California.Com
usename. Make sure that none of the boxes are checked.
- Select the Dialing tab. Uncheck Enable idle disconnect
and Disconnect when connection may not be needed options.
Click OK.
- Double click the CaliforniaCom icon on your desktop.
In the Password box, type in your California.Com password.
Click the Save Password box to save your password, and
then click the Dial button to connect to California.Com.
If you have problems connecting the first time, try a few times
before troubleshooting. For technical support, call the main office
using one of the numbers listed below.
