The holidays are the perfect time to go all out with your appearance. Outfit, hair, shoes, makeup—every aspect of your look could benefit from a bit of color, an extra dab of glitter, and a whole lot of confidence to tie it all together. This year, embrace the jolly season by dusting off your brushes and trying a head-turning holiday makeup look inspired by the season. All you need is a bit of creativity, time, and patience, and maybe a product or two from California’s coolest makeup brands to nail these holiday makeup looks—you got this!

Creative Christmas Makeup Looks

Fresh Fir Eyes

The fresh smell of fir pine trees instantly reminds us of exploring farms with our loved ones in search of the perfect Christmas tree. Why not pay homage to that by donning a deep green Christmas makeup look this year? Subtly festive yet perfectly glamorous, this Christmas makeup idea is everything and more.

Looking for the perfect green eyeshadow palette to pull this look off? Colourpop’s monochromatic Just my Luck palette has all the shimmery and matte shades of green you need.

Red and Green to Keep Santa Keen

Nothing says Christmas like the combination of red and green. Rock the season’s most celebrated colors as a part of your holiday makeup look and get ready for the influx of compliments. It’s up to you to make this as subtle or Christmas-y as you like, but we think makeup artist Isabelle De Vries has nailed this Christmas makeup idea to a T.

Use the same Colourpop palette from the previous look to paint your under eyes a shimmery green. As for the bold lip, you need the perfect shade of classic red. If you want your lipstick to last the whole night, try the Outlaw Lip Sync Duo from vegan brand Kat Von D Beauty—it’ll stay looking good the entire celebration.

Snow Globe Lids

If you’ve ever been lucky enough to witness the year’s first snowfall at night, then you know how pretty the flakes look against the dark backdrop of the sky. When we first saw this Christmas makeup look, we couldn’t help but see the similarities.

Achieve this beautiful holiday makeup look in all shades of blue with the mini Forget Me Not palette from Violet Voss Cosmetics. Since eight shades of blue aren’t something you use in your everyday makeup look, getting a fun-sized palette makes total sense. As for the crystals used in the look, you can find them at any makeup store and crafts store. Not feeling the sparkles? Substitute the crystals with white dots of liner or shadow and you’ll still have an awesome Christmas makeup look.

Shimmering Shining Splendid

Is the Christmas party you’re going to not extravagant enough to cover your lids and temples in crystals? Try a more subtle Christmas makeup idea and swipe a metallic shadow pen across your crease like Makeup by Mario did in this picture. Super pretty and achievable even by the most novice MUA, this holiday makeup look is a no-brainer.

This Christmas makeup look would look good in any metallic shimmer color. But if you want to replicate what Mario made, try the Haus LaboratoriesGlam Attack Liquid Shimmer Powder in the shade biker. Versatile, smudge-proof, and easily layered or blended, this shimmer-to-powder formula is absolutely incredible.

White Christmas

Pulling off an all-white eye look takes guts. But if you’re ever going to attempt this makeup look, you might as well do it around the holidays when everyone’s going all out. Especially flattering on darker skin tones, this New Year makeup look is bound to dazzle from a mile away.

The key to having seamless white lids is to properly prep your base beforehand, so don’t forget to use a primer or concealer before applying your makeup. Afterwards, pack in the Super Pomade Vegan Eyeliner, Shadow, and Brow Pigment from KVD in White Out.

When in doubt, just add some more glitter. Give them a reason to take a second look. Photo courtesy of Hung Vanngo.

Golden NYE Fireworks

Midnight fireworks are many people’s favorite part of December 31st. Have your New Year’s Eve makeup look match the sparkling midnight sky with a golden and glitter shadow look. Make your sparkly lids the star of this holiday makeup look, don a subtle black liner to frame your eyes, match with a neutral glossy lip, and you’re golden!

For the perfect champagne pop on your eyes, get the Quad Goals Multi Palette in Oh So Nude from Morphe. These playful formulas are ideal for swiping on with your finger or a brush and are easily blendable and buildable into a beautiful holiday makeup look.

Winging it This Year

Have you sworn off New Year’s resolutions? Will you be winging everything this coming year? Start with your holiday makeup. Draw a sharp, graphic liner winged out to the max and make your eyeliner your first statement of the year. Renowned makeup artist Natasha Denona went above and beyond with two black wings and a nude wing for this look, but you can definitely tone it down if this isn’t the holiday makeup vibe you had in mind.

For a precise, smudge-proof liner look, trust the liquid liner from Anastasia Beverly Hills. This liner has been a staple in our makeup bags for a while now and it glides on with so much ease, you won’t believe it.

The Classic NYE Glam

A red lip, shimmery shadow, and a classic wing liner is a classic route to take for your holiday makeup look. A longstanding favorite for a reason, this New Year makeup look suits any skin tone, eye color, and occasion. You probably already have all the necessary items to achieve this look in your makeup bag; you’ll be holiday chic in no time!

The picture-perfect black liquid liner, the classic bold red matte lip, and the shimmery gold eyeshadow were all mentioned in previous holiday makeup looks in this article, so we’ve got you covered. But what’s a killer makeup look without the perfect base? Before you start replicating this look, apply the Born This Way Natural Finish Foundation from Too Faced—everything else will go on much smoother after.
