A Brief Introduction to Petit Pot

Based in the East Bay Area city of Emeryville, Petit Pot was founded in 2014 by French pastry chef Maxime Pouvreau. After searching, unsuccessfully, for pots de crème throughout the Bay Area, Pouvreau was inspired to bring the sweet treat to America. He blended the French-style dessert with organic ingredients from California to create a balanced pudding with an extra level of pizzaz. In addition to using local crops for the pudding itself, Petit Pot packages each serving in reusable glass jars, putting sustainability first throughout the product’s lifecycle.

An Honest Petit Pot Review

If you have a sweet tooth and like the creamy texture of pudding, Petit Pot’s line of organic French puddings will surprise and delight you. Each recipe contains fewer than a dozen easy-to-pronounce ingredients you can feel good about, yet the sumptuous flavor profiles make you feel like you’re on vacation. If their great taste wasn’t enough, the containers are so adorable you’ll want to leave them in your fridge year-round—and repurpose them once you’ve eaten every delicious bite.

Dark Chocolate Pot de Crème

Though each flavor has its own perks, the dark chocolate was easily my favorite. Balancing a creamy sweetness and a slightly bitter natural chocolate flavor, this variety is dangerously good. There is nothing artificial-tasting about this pudding, offering a refreshingly innovative way to eat chocolate. 

Madagascar Vanilla Pot de Crème

Dotted with vanilla bean flecks, this pudding is as pleasing to look at as it is to eat. Thanks to its rich tasting notes and perfectly thick consistency, this flavor reminded us of drinking vanilla milkshakes. Whether you’re looking for a touch of nostalgia or a mood boost, eating this French pudding ought to count as a form of self-care.

Salted Caramel Pot de Crème

The salted caramel dessert is easily the sweetest option, tasting akin to butterscotch. Since this flavor also has a thick consistency, just a bite or two is enough to get the whole experience—allowing you to prolong the flavor journey with spoonfuls throughout the day. A hint of salt helps to balance the sweetness of the pudding for a pleasing dessert that will leave you feeling satisfied. 

Organic Riz au Lait

This rice pudding is perhaps the most surprising variety. Composed of a thinner base and dotted with soft grains of rice, this flavor is uniquely tasty. While it takes arroz con leche lovers some time to adjust to this pudding’s interesting consistency—which gives both the runnier base and rice equal attention rather than offering a heavier dose of rice—the flavor combination is pleasantly defined. If you’re ready to expand your horizons and tantalize your palate, this indulgent dessert is a wonderful place to start.
