Considered the birthplace of modern technology, San Jose is one of the most advanced tech hubs not only in California, but the whole world. People from across the globe rush to the city for job opportunities and top-notch educational institutions—it just so happens that San Jose is also one of the most educated cities in the Golden State. But tech isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, and it might have you wondering “What else is there to do?” The answer is pretty simple. You’ll actually never get bored of this city. 1. Participate in Hands-on Activities at The Tech Interactive

You’ll never know how innovative you can be until you visit one of the most creative places in California, The Tech Interactive. The family-friendly science and technology center offers hands-on activities, experimental labs, and design challenges that encourage people to get creative and curious. The excitement doesn’t stop there at this San Jose attraction. The Tech Interactive’s IMAX Dome Theater has the world’s first laser projector for a dome theater, where you’ll have a unique movie experience. In a nutshell, The Tech Interactive provides a glimpse into how things are run in Silicon Valley.

2. Learn How the Pharaohs Lived at the Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum 

The Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum houses the largest collection of authentic ancient Egyptian artifacts in the world. Founded by the Rosicrucian Order at the peak of the Egyptomania era in 1928, the museum consists of a planetarium, research library, as well as more than 4,000 artifacts. Inside the Egyptian-inspired building are the mummified bodies of four humans, cats, sharks, and baboons. If you’ve always been fascinated with ancient Egyptian culture, a trip to the Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum will be the best thing you do in San Jose.

Located in a valley in the Diablo Range foothills, Alum Rock Park offers 13 miles of trails, varying from fairly level to sharp switchbacks.

3. Relax at Alum Rock Park

Did you know that California’s first municipal park is located in San Jose? Alum Rock Park was initially a public space when San Jose was established in 1777, but started serving as a park in 1872. As the ideal family attraction for those who love being in the great outdoors, this park boasts 13 miles of hiking and biking trails, plenty of picnic spots, and spacious playgrounds for kids—you’ll even find a small museum within its premises. Spend a relaxing day with your family and enjoy the scenic views of Silicon Valley. 

Kelley Park is located on the north side of the city where it's regularly visited by locals who enjoy its beautiful grounds and nearby attractions.

4. Spend the Day at Kelley Park

Kelley Park is another must-visit spot with the family. The 156-acre natural beauty is more than just a regular park. Happy Hollow Park and Zoo, Japanese Friendship Garden, San Jose History Park, Viet Museum, and Portuguese Historical Museum are all found here. You’ll also notice gorgeous lakes and hiking trails at Kelley Park. Watch your kids have the time of their lives petting the animals and playing around as you stroll the trails and check out the museums.

The San Jose Flea Market is full of crafts, vendors, and food stalls in a vast, kid-friendly space with a carousel and mini Ferris wheel.

5. Experience the San Jose Vibe at the Flea Market

The only way to actually experience the San Jose vibe is by visiting the Flea Market. Organic fruits and vegetables, barbershops, electronic supplies, and bookshops are at your disposal at one of the best places to visit in San Jose—so are restaurants for when you’re done shopping. If you’re a more on-the-go eater, grab a corn dog or barbecue on your wait. There’s basically nothing that you won’t find at the San Jose Flea Market. And the best part is the kids can tag along and enjoy riding the carousel and Ferris wheel.

Since its construction in 1886, the property and mansion were claimed by many to be haunted by the ghosts of those killed with Winchester rifles.

6. Tour the Creepy Winchester Mystery House

San Jose has a creepy side thanks to the Winchester Mystery House. The story behind this spooky mansion is Sarah Winchester, the widow of a firearms magnate, moved from Connecticut to a small eight-room house in San Jose in 1884. Over the next 38 years, Sarah continued adding to the house until it had 160 rooms. When touring the Winchester Mystery House, you’ll find doors that open to walls, indoor balconies, and stairs that go nowhere. If you're looking for exciting things to do in San Jose at night, you know where to go.

7. Hike the Sierra Road Loop

Who’s all excited about night hikes? You better be, because the Sierra Road Loop’s magnificent views can’t be found anywhere else. To be clear, we’re not saying hiking the trail during the day isn’t as enjoyable; we’re just saying that the San Jose night sky is worth viewing from this very spot. The moderate loop is a 4.6-mile hike that takes about two hours to finish. If you’re a beginner, arrive in the afternoon hours so you manage to arrive during sunset and enjoy stargazing

Instead of Netflix and chilling on the couch, set up your very own movie theater at the local drive-in.

8. Catch a Flick at West Wind Capitol Drive-In

The most traffic you’ll see in San Jose is at West Wind Capitol Drive-In during midnight screenings. Family-owned and operated, the open-air movie theater is the go-to for people who love watching horrors, comedies, and romance flicks under the NorCal night sky. There are several snack bars at the drive-in theater, but feel free to bring your own. Watching your favorite movies the good, old-fashioned way has never been better—shh, the show’s about to begin.  

9. Party at The Ritz

San Jose knows how to throw a good party. The city’s famous club The Ritz is every couple’s favorite spot to go on Friday nights. With a huge dance floor and awesome atmosphere, you’ll have an unforgettable night in Downtown San Jose. Local and international musicians and DJs keep everybody dancin’ all night. And on select nights, you can even drop by for a movie screening followed by a party. As a top spot for unique dates, The Ritz gets pretty crowded, so make sure you arrive early. And if you want to have dinner and party, reserve your seats ahead of time.
