A Luxurious, Historic Hideaway in San Francisco

“Once you come inside the gates of the Presidio, you feel this weight lifted, this breath of fresh air,” says Terry Haney, Managing Director of Presidio Lodging. The relaxing experience continues as you approach the Inn at the Presidio—the closest hotel to the iconic Golden Gate Bridge.

As part of a national park, the Inn at the Presidio is dedicated to the preservation of public land, but this incredible property is also distinguished by its proximity to San Francisco’s coveted destinations, immense historic significance, and luxurious amenities—culminating in a bespoke experience you can’t get anywhere else.

Sink into the plush couches and armchairs in the lobby to read a book, warm up by the fireplace, or munch on cheese during the nightly mixers.

Surrounded by the San Francisco Bay, the Pacific Ocean, and 1,500 acres of open space, the 22-room Inn at the Presidio provides guests with a new perspective of the Bay Area. Relax in a rocking chair on the front porch, connect with fellow visitors around the fire, and indulge in scrumptious cheese during nightly mixers to see what you’ve been missing.

Guests can immerse themselves in a small part of San Francisco history, too. Built in 1903, the inn formerly served as U.S. Army barracks, complete with housing for 3,000 people, its own water treatment, electrical grid, post office, and a variety of landscapes ranging from beaches to forests. When the base was permanently closed and the federally owned land was no longer needed, local politicians fought to have the space preserved, resulting in the national park we know today.

“The hotel itself wouldn’t be so special without the place that it’s in.”
Terry Haney

Since 2013, the Presidio has been a self-sustained entity and a proud California landmark. Considered a city within a city, the Presidio is a popular destination, but without the creation of the Presidio Trust and the revenue from the Inn at the Presidio, this natural wonder may not exist. So, whether you come for the views of the Golden Gate Bridge, San Francisco’s tourist attractions, or a slice of California history, you’re sure to be charmed by the Inn at the Presidio.

Though the inn consists of refurbished Bachelor Officer Quarters on a 150-year-old military base, the charming environs may make you think otherwise. Endowed with a warm fireplace, inviting living room, and separate bedroom, the 17 suites here offer a sumptuous experience as well as a place to lay your head. The property’s elegant amenities and locally made bath products entice you to stay in your suite, but the plethora of nearby attractions convince you to get out and explore.

Watch the ocean waves crash on the shores of Baker Beach, and admire the calmer waters of the Bay as they undulate along Crissy Beach; practice your swing at the oldest golf course west of the Mississippi; visit Crissy Field and The Walt Disney Family Museum; and test your limits along 25 miles of hiking trails—all without leaving the Presidio. But the adventures don’t stop there. Hop inside the Inn at the Presidio’s complimentary shuttle for a 10-minute drive to see more San Francisco destinations.

Between the posh accommodations and the ample opportunities waiting just outside your doorstep, it’s hard to beat the stunning Inn at the Presidio when it comes to unique San Francisco stays.
