Jay Sener is a longtime resident of California specializing in listing homes and negotiating contracts for buyers. Growing up in a real estate family, Jay spent his formative years in a real estate office and—though he never expected to—he eventually found his calling in the industry. Now, with decades of experience in real estate and related fields, Jay brings an entrepreneurial spirit to the relationships he fosters. Jay enjoys getting to know a wide variety of people, building relationships, and finding solutions that work for everyone.
Born in Pennsylvania, Jay was raised on a horse farm before moving to California when he was 10 years old. While he isn’t originally from the Golden State, he’s called it home for the majority of his life and has come to love San Diego’s immaculate weather, close-knit communities, multitude of educational institutions, and entrepreneurial spirit. Jay can’t get enough of the region or the wonderful people who live there.
Helping Clients Stand Out In The Real Estate Market
While Jay has been around real estate his whole life, he didn’t initially intend to work in the industry. “I swore I would never get into the business,” says Jay, “but I found that my career always surrounded it in one way, shape, or form.” Whether he was working in sales, database management, marketing, or technology, Jay held roles that required similar skills and often served the real estate market. He was inspired to enter the mortgage field while he was working for an industry publication but, seeing a bubble on the horizon, Jay sold his business in 2005 to become a stay-at-home dad. When his children were old enough, Jay returned to consulting and was drawn to the sales aspect of becoming a real estate agent.

While he’s focused on building relationships and really getting to know his clients, Jay is equally skilled at navigating the analytical, procedural aspects of the transaction and upholding his fiduciary duties. Experienced in helping both buyers and sellers, Jay particularly enjoys the opportunities listings give him to create leverage for his clients and the art of negotiating involved in the buying process. “I ask a lot of questions early on,” says Jay, explaining his approach to compiling a fair offer and creating a situation in which everyone wins.
From figuring out what his client needs to discovering what the sellers want to get out of the transaction, Jay is dedicated to finding pain points and meeting those needs. Similarly, Jay helps sellers spruce up their properties so they’re in the best condition possible and can meet the requirements of potential buyers. With a network of stagers, contractors, and photographers, Jay ensures that all of his clients are set up for success.
GETTING INVOLVED IN THE COMMUNITY
When he’s not helping clients purchase their dream homes or transition into the next phase of their lives, Jay is spending time with his amazing wife and two daughters, riding motorcycles, hiking, camping, traveling, and enjoying the great outdoors. He is always willing to lend a helping hand because service is incredibly important to Jay and his family.
Jay donates a portion of every transaction to one of the many charitable organizations he's involved with, such as the California Masonic Foundation, supporting the Raising a Reader and Masonic Homes programs; Monarch School—an organization committed to educating students experiencing homelessness; Girl Scouts San Diego; San Diego Downtown Breakfast Rotary Club; and Salvation Army Kroc Center in San Diego. In addition, Jay has supported the Rotary International Foundation, serves on the board for the Public Schools Advisory Council for the San Diego region of the California Masonic Foundation, and is in the process of setting up his own foundation.
