Firebaugh lies between the 5 freeway and State Route 99 in the Central Valley. As the first established city in Fresno County and as one of the oldest historic towns on the western edge of the San Joaquin Valley, Firebaugh is full of old-town charm. The city shares its eastern border with the San Joaquin River, which allowed the city to make a name for itself as the ferry-crossing for prospectors heading to gold country from the San Joaquin River prior to the railroad. Today the city is known for its Mediterranean climate and agricultural industry which favors tomatoes and melons.
