Donner Summit is an absolute gem for hiking enthusiasts. Standing at 7,239 feet, it offers hikers a challenging yet rewarding trek. This is the most difficult of the Donner Lake hikes, so be prepared for a strenuous 5.5-mile round trip that can take anywhere from 4 to 5 hours to complete. For as challenging as this trail is, that difficulty is matched by its beauty. Filled with breathtaking views of the Tahoe basin and seasonal flowers, this is one of those Tahoe trails that is like candy for the eyes.

It’s also one of the more exciting Tahoe Donner Bike trails, with its elevation shifts that make for a fun ride along the trail. The trail can be accessed through Castle Valley Road.

Johnson Canyon

It’s an easy-to-moderate hike that doesn’t overstay its welcome, taking about 1-2 hours to complete. Hikers and bikers will get to enjoy this destination for wildflower viewing
