Experience the Return of the Gilroy Garlic Festival
Few food festivals carry the legacy of the Gilroy Garlic Festival. After several years off the calendar, the event is back in 2026 with a new home next to Gilroy Gardens.
The main draw is Gourmet Alley, where the festival's famous Pyro Chefs cook garlic scampi and calamari over open flames in full view of the crowd. Garlic fries, garlic bread and roasted garlic round out the menu, along with the festival's most talked about item: garlic ice cream, a dessert that's sweeter than it sounds. Cooking demonstrations, local artisans and live entertainment fill out the rest of the weekend.

Go Beyond the Spear at the San Joaquin Asparagus Festival
Every spring, Stockton celebrates one of the California Delta's most underrated crops. The San Joaquin Asparagus Festival takes asparagus far past the dinner plate, with vendors serving deep fried spears, asparagus corn dogs, asparagus burritos and even asparagus ice cream.
Beyond the food, the festival brings carnival rides, live music, agricultural exhibits and plenty of activities for kids. It's a celebration built around a vegetable most people never think to celebrate, and that's exactly the point. This year's event ran April 24 through 26.
When: Annually in late April

Slurp Up Tradition at the Pismo Beach Clam Festival
On California's Central Coast, the self-proclaimed "Clam Capital of the World" has been throwing a party for its namesake mollusk since 1946. The Pismo Beach Clam Festival is a free, family-friendly celebration that draws tens of thousands of visitors to the oceanfront each October for a weekend built around clams and coastal charm.
The centerpiece is the Best Local Clam Chowder Cook-off, a ticketed event where Pismo Beach restaurants compete for bragging rights and attendees vote for the People's Choice winner. Beyond the chowder, the weekend kicks off with a Saturday morning parade and rolls on with live music, food vendors, local artisan booths, carnival rides and a free Kids Zone packed with bounce houses. Set against the Pacific and the town's historic pier, it's one of the more scenic single-food festivals in the state.
When: Annually on the third weekend in October (October 17 and 18, 2026)
